It is a cold winter morning in a small town in Turkmenistan. The sun has just risen, and everything outside is covered with white snow. The trees, the roofs, the streets—everything looks peaceful and beautiful. Two friends, Kerim and Maya, have been waiting all week for this snowy day. As soon as they finish breakfast, they ask their parents if they can go outside and play.
Kerim puts on his warm coat, scarf, and gloves. Maya wears her thick jacket and boots. When they step outside, they feel the cold air on their faces, but it makes them even more excited. They run to the open yard behind Kerim’s house where the snow is clean and soft.
“Let’s build a snowman!” Maya says happily.
Kerim agrees. They start rolling the snow into big balls. First the body, then the head. They use small stones for the eyes, a carrot for the nose, and sticks for the arms. When they finish, the snowman looks friendly and cute.
After that, Kerim brings a small sled. “Do you want to try?” he asks.
“Of course!” Maya answers.
They take turns sliding down a small snowy hill. They laugh every time they fall into the soft snow. Their cheeks turn red from the cold, but they don’t want to stop having fun.
Later, they decide to make snow angels. They lie on their backs and move their arms and legs to shape wings in the snow. When they stand up, they see the beautiful angel shapes they created.
After playing for a long time, their hands start feeling cold. Kerim’s mother comes outside and says,
“Children, come inside for some hot tea!”
They run back to the warm house. Inside, the smell of fresh tea fills the room. Kerim’s mother gives them hot tea and warm çörek. As they drink their tea, the children talk about how much fun they had.
“This was the best winter day,” Maya says with a smile.
Kerim nods. “Yes, I hope it snows again tomorrow!”
